ANNUAL MEETING

11:30 – 12:30 Registration & Refreshments: Join us for pie, ice cream and
refreshments. This is subsidized by Wellington Soil & Crop and corporate
sponsors.
Memberships will be due at the door; $35.00 for a one year membership.

12:30 pm Welcome; Business meeting, minutes, financial examiner’s report & financial

statement, review of proposed constitution

12:45 pm The Honourable Rob Black, Senator for Ontario and Chair of the Senate
Agriculture and Forestry Committee. Senator Black is well known in
Wellington County circles. He has worked in the rural, agricultural and
leadership areas for much of his working career. Rob will outline his role on the
Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry, and provide an update
on the committee mandate to undertake a study on soil health across Canada.
He will also discuss the federal government’s fertilizer reduction strategy.

1:30 pm Dan Breen: :Building Resilient Soil” - Breen, who farms at Putnam, just east of
London, as the 2018 soil champion. “Nature is in balance, and we mess up that
balance with excessive tillage, taking out too many nutrients, or not providing
biodiversity. We need to provide a stable environment as we go about our
farming practices

2:15 pm Patrick Verkley: Patrick hails from Strathroy, Ontario where he has a mixed
farming operation of broiler chickens and cash crops. He is a member of the
Ontario Soil Network. His topic: “60 inch corn: Making Space for Opportunity”

3:00 pm Adjourn
